Brutal crime inside the couple’s home shocks residents; victim suffered seven stab wounds before suspect fled
The Civil Police of Mato Grosso, Brazil arrested a 40-year-old woman on Thursday (October 16), suspected of stabbing her husband to death in the São Mateus neighborhood, in Várzea Grande, part of the Cuiabá metropolitan area.

According to the Homicide and Protection Department (DHPP), the crime took place on Sunday (October 12) inside the couple’s residence. The victim, Joel Mesquita da Silva, aged 33, was found dead on the floor, with multiple stab wounds across his body. A forensic report from Politec confirmed seven deep injuries, indicating an act of extreme brutality.
After committing the crime, the suspect escaped on a motorcycle and remained on the run for several days. Police collected enough evidence for the prosecutor to request her preventive arrest, which was later approved by the court.
She later turned herself in to authorities accompanied by her lawyer and is now in custody, awaiting questioning and further judicial procedures.
This domestic homicide has drawn widespread attention on social media and reignited debates about gender-based violence and marital crimes in Brazil.
